At MKThink, our expertise in strategic planning utilizes spatial intelligence, adaptive reuse, and other techniques from our diverse and talented team to make places better. Our projects create solutions for learning outcomes, healthy places, community strength, and systems optimization. An example of solutions-focused work in action is our ongoing support of The Ready Keiki Program, a state-wide multifaceted plan to ensure all Hawai'i children are ready for kindergarten. These efforts secure the future generations of Keiki and promote economic stability for local families.
In collaboration with the Hawai'i School Facilities Authority (HISFA), MKThink is working to help the Ready Keiki Program achieve its goal of providing preschool access for all Hawai'i 3 and 4-year-old, an initiative that aims to create over 400 classrooms statewide by 2032. These development goals are set to be reached through a combination of three development pathways:
Pathway 1: Converting underutilized classrooms on existing public school sites.
Pathway 2: Renovating underutilized state-owned facilities like libraries or office buildings into dedicated pre-kindergarten facilities.
Pathway 3: Constructing new Prekindergarten Learning Hubs on undeveloped state-owned land or on existing Elementary or High School campuses.
Phase 1, recently completed, established clear guidelines, standards, and a quantitative analysis of the state. This foundational work sets the stage for the next phase, where we will build and test eight different campuses. MKThink’s ongoing and eager participation with HISFA and the Executive Office on Early Learning (EOEL) is poised to make a meaningful impact on Hawaiian youth.
At MKThink, we believe in the power of thoughtful design and strategic planning to foster better learning environments. Through supporting initiatives like the Ready Keiki Program, we are building a better future for Hawai'i's keiki, one seat at a time.
