FACILITIES MASTER PLAN
Designing a library system to deliver exploration and discovery
Sonoma County Library enlisted MKThink to create a Facilities Master Plan that mapped out a schedule for building renovations and improvements to help Sonoma County Library realize its vision, mission, and goals. MKThink assessed the 15-branch system that serves 495,000 residents across 35 cities in a multi-pronged process. The project team visited each branch to interview librarians and patrons, observe workflows and user journeys, evaluate building conditions, and map space allocations. Extensive data analysis examined hosted events, space allocations, library visits, library card holders, and energy usage. Insights from this assessment informed facilities recommendations for the overall system and each branch.
