North Monterey County Unified School District
FACILITIES FRAMEWORK PLAN
“Just because kids are poor doesn’t mean they don’t deserve all the environments that students need to thrive” - Cari Yeater
With a growing student population and aging overcrowded infrastructure, North Monterey Unified School District didn't have the budget to simply build its way out of its problems. That's why MKThink's build less, solve more approach appealed to them. MKThink helped the district develop education specifications and a facilities framework plan that prioritized reconfiguring and optimizing existing facilities and operations to better serve the district's needs in the near and long term. The program lays the groundwork for a new stage of planning and design focused on re-aligning campuses, re-envisioning outdoor spaces, creating flexible, STEM-ready classrooms, and reducing overcrowding. Rich stakeholder engagement has been essential to all stages of planning.
