FACILITIES MASTER PLAN

Designing a library system to deliver exploration and discovery

MKThink was brought in to create a Facilities Master Plan for the Sonoma County Library to map out a schedule for building renovations and improvements in order to help Sonoma County Library to realize its vision, mission, and goals. MKThink assessed the 15-branch system that serves 495,000 residents across 35 cities in a multi-pronged process. The project team visited each branch to conduct interviews with librarians and patrons, observe workflows and user journeys, evaluate building conditions, and map space allocations. Extensive data analysis examined hosted events, space allocations, library visits, library card holders, and energy usage. Insights drawn from this assessment informed facilities recommendations for the overall system and each individual branch.
