MISSION CREEK PARK & PAVILIONS
A lively ensemble of buildings revitalizes a disused freeway underpass to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle
Revamped a largely abandoned space, situated underneath a freeway overpass, into a recreational public park. Explored the program and setting for visual cues that could simultaneously reflect and elevate the context. The result was a distinctive construction method and material palette. The pavilions add drama and playfulness to the cityscape, serving as visual anchor points in the park. The pavilions’ translucent blue skins allude to the site’s nautical context, as their form and construction recall those of kayaks and other small watercrafts.
