The Better Place: Adaptive Reuse at The Edge of San Francisco

ABSTRACT

In 2022, as the world still grappled with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, MKThink transformed 800 Great Highway into Ocean Plant, a dynamic hub designed to revitalize in-person interactions and foster community engagement. In effect, Ocean Plant serves as a Living Lab to create Better Places, through participatory experimentation at the intersection of cultures, the environment, and architecture. By integrating MKThink and RoundhouseOne technology and services, Ocean Plant can leverage multi-dimensional spatial analytics and innovative design to enhance the safety, health, and joy of its inhabitants. As a trusted and vibrant community hub, this initiative not only reflects MKThink and RoundhouseOne’s commitment to innovative placemaking, but also establishes Ocean Plant as a successful model and testing ground for future endeavors.
