Project Description

Mission Creek Sports Park

An abandoned lot beneath freeway ramps transformed into a “whimsical yet functional community destination.”

The once-abandoned 4.5-acre lot under Highway 280 is now the site of the Mission Creek Sports Park. After negotiating requirements with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, MKThink transformed the former “brown field” into public open space and a park that features basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. The park serves as community resource in the Mission Creek development district.

Anchoring the park are the MKThink-designed (UCSF) Kayak House and Maintenance Pavilion, which stylishly house public restrooms and park and recreation equipment. Utilizing a pre-engineered metal building system, cost-conscious materials, and other economical design approaches, the project met the tight budget and time frame.
